A ride down the Star Mile.

Have you see the movie The Last Kiss? It is about a guy who reaches their 30s and he has this perfect life, he has a lovely girlfriend who is pregnant and happy, a fantastic job, and a group of friends. He has everything he wished for. And then he feels that he is missing something. In a wedding a young, college, funny girl flirts with him. Suddenly the guy feels that he maybe he is missing feeling young. He doesn't want to feel old and *caught* up. He wants to feel the adventure. He goes after her.

This is one of the stories that appear in this great, great movie. Basically, most of the stories are a reflection of a life crisis situation.

What happened to our guy? Yes, he had a relationship with college girl. Yes, the girlfriend found out and pushed him away. And THAT's when he found that he wanted to be with the girlfriend and have the life he was so scared of. He used to have everything he wished for. Everything was in the palm of his hand. And he ruined it. He didn't want to have a serious relationship with college girl, he broke her heart. And he didn't want to break his relationship with the girlfriend, but he did.

In the final scene he waits for her outside their home. During night and day, rain and sun. he waits for her to answer to the door and talk to him.. and that's when this songs appear.

It is hard to understand the lyrics of the song. It is quite poetic. And if you ask me, it is amazing. Joshua Radin could easily be my second husband =). I am so sad that I missed his concert in Glasgow.. darn MSc... Joshua? Would you come back here? please?

This song, i must admit that it makes me feel strong. I'm not telling that I have zero ego (hehe no.) or that I've never, ever had broken a heart (I am kinda a heartbreaker..) but I've been in situations when this lyrics apply to my life. In that moment, when I feel so sad, I wish that somehow Joshua Radin would secretly whisper this song to his ear... And then, he'd come to me in my dreams and sing to me the last paragraphs.

Just because you know... I have my ego too.. and the guy better do some begging at the end, isn't? haha

but please, read the lyrics... focus on this background, and you will see the magic and the deep of the words in it...

Title: Star Mile

Old doubt and a girl by your side
She’s feeding your pride
As you go for a ride
Down the Star Mile

Worlds arise as she lets you come in
A duo begins
To the Hollywood Inn
Of the lonely

And all the gold dust in her eyes won't reform into a ring
You had and lost the one thing
You kept in a safe place
Remember the face
Of the girl who had made you her own
And how you left her alone

All’s well at the base of the hill
You might need to fill
A prescription to kill
Off the silence.

Look down from your tower on high
And take in the night
Look her right in the eye
She’ll listen

Life goes to those that are true
The regular news
Over playing the blues
With the light on

And if you burn the road
That’ll lead you back to her in time
I watch you turn to stone
You can’t find the sunlight

She’s moving on without you
The tide breaks
You watch the stars fade
They gather you back to their home
I guess it’s better than being alone

Clever trick.

Artist: A Fine Frenzy
Album: One Cell In The Sea
Year: 2007
Title: Almost Lover

You fingertips across my skin
The palm trees swaying in the wind

You sang me Spanish lullabies
The sweetest sadness in your eyes
Clever trick

I never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
I should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

We walked along a crowded street
You took my hand and danced with me

And when you left you kissed my lips
You told me you'd never ever forget these images, no

I never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
I should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

I cannot go to the ocean
I cannot drive the streets at night
I cannot wake up in the morning
Without you on my mind
So you're gone and I'm haunted
And I bet you are just fine
Did I make it that easy for you
To walk right in and out of my life?

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
I should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

Don't chase me if you are not ready to catch me.

Lucky you.

I have nothing else to say today...

Artist: The National
Album: Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers
Year: 2003
Title: Lucky You

Every time you get a drink
and every time you go to asleep
are those dreams inside you head
is there sunlight on your bed
and every time you're driving home
way outside your safety zone
wherever you will ever be
you're never getting rid of me

you own me
there's nothing you can do
you own me

you could have made a safer bet
but what you break is what you get
you wake up in the bed you make
I think you made a big mistake

you own me
there's nothing you can do
you own me
you own me
lucky you

you own me
there's nothing you can do

you clean yourself to meet
the man who isn't me
you're putting on a shirt
a shirt I'll never see
the letter's in your coat
but no one's in your head
cause you're too smart to remember
you're too smart
lucky you

Just close your eyes & count to five.

Today was the official last day for the MSc classes... It is weird to know that one year ago I didn't know that I was going to end up here. I've reached so much... And I'm not bragging. I promise. But I do think that I've changed, I am not perfect. hell. I am far from perfect. But I've found out that I can reach for things that I never thought I'd be able to get. It helped me to open my eyes to new horizons, to new chances. Now I guess somehow, it makes less impossible for me to think that I can get what I want if I just make the jump to try to get it.

Sometimes the jump thingy is the difficult part =)

So let's go and sing a bit... Because all I want is Now. That's all I want, for now =)

Artist: Snow Patrol
Album: A Hundred Million Suns
Year: 2008
Title: Set Down Your Glass

Just close your eyes
And count to five

Let's craft the only thing we know into surprise

Set down your glass
I painted this

To look like you and me forever as we're now

And I'm shaking then I'm still
When you're eyes meet mine I lose simple skills
Like to tell you all I want is now

You sing and I'm killed
I'm just not the same

As I was a year ago and each minute since then

My jumper tears
As we take it off

And you say you'll sew me good as new and I know you will

And I'm shaken then I'm still
When your eyes meet mine I lose simple skills
Like to tell you all I want is now

And I'm shaken then I'm still
When your eyes meet mine I lose simple skills
Like to tell you all I want is now

Dreamin' of Revelry

Double post today..!!

I am happy. I am a happy camper. And nothing makes me more like a jumping pixie than Jack Johnson.

Jack Johnson has a competition inside my head with Jason Mraz for the most laid back singer in my list. And come on.. He writes his songs in Hawaii.. while laying in the beach, with a banjo and a guitar and the sea breeze... Jack? Would you kidnap me? Please?

Weather is lovely right now. I finished the assignments for this week. This is the last week of my MSc!! And all the good news that I was expecting, I got them. I am a happy camper indeed.

Let's dance around our rooms, in our happy underwear and jumping and singing with a brush as a microphone. Let's have bubble toes and lets move like a jellyfish.

I do move like a jellyfish. And don't deny it. I know you love dancing like a jelly fish too.

Artist: Jack Johnson
Title: Bubble Toes

It's as simple as something that nobody knows
that her eyes are as big as her bubbly toes
On the feet of a queen of the hearts of the cards
and her feet are all covered with tar balls and scars

It's as common as something that nobody knows
that her beauty will follow wherever she goes
Up the hill in the back of her house in the woods
she loves me forever, I know she could

I remember when you and me mmm
how we used to be just good friends
Wouldn't give me none
But all I wanted was some

She's got a whole lot of reasons
She can't think of a single one
That can justify leaving
And he got none but he thinks he got so many problems
Man he got, too much time to waste

His dreams are like commercials
But her dreams are picture perfect and
Our dreams are so related though they're often underestimated

It's as simple as something that nobody knows that
Her eyes are as big as her bubbly toes
On the feet of the queen of the hearts of the cards
And her feet are infested with tar balls and

La da da da da da

Well I was eating lunch at the D. L. G.
When this little girl came and she sat next to me
I never seen nobody move the way she did
Well she did and she does and she'll do it again

When you move like a jellyfish
Rhythm don't mean nothing
You go with the flow
You don't stop
Move like a jellyfish
Rhythm is nothing
You go with the flow
You don't stop

It's as common as something that nobody knows it
Her beauty will follow wherever she goes
Up the hill in the back of her house in the wood
She'll love me forever, I know she

La da da da da da

If you would only listen
You might just realize what you're missing
You're missing me
If you would only listen
You might just realize what you're missing
You're missing me

It's as simple as something that nobody knows that
Her eyes are as big as her bubbly toes
On the feet of the queen of the hearts of the cards
And her feet are infested with tar balls and

La da da da da da

PS.. (I love you). No. Seriously. The title comes from Kings of Leon song: Revelry... Kings, I love you.

Boy, you got it all..

I have a new crush.

I love having new crushes. I love finding new, little, unknown songs and hold them dear to my heart. There is something magic in suddenly finding that a new song describes a part of your life just perfectly. It is like if the songwriter knew exactly how you felt and that he or she decided to sing for you, not to make you sad, not to make you happy, just to tell you that he/she understands.

So, don't ask me how I found this. The important thing is finding the song, not what I did to find this song. Sam Bradley.. Too Far Gone. Ok, you might recognize the lyrics, it is similar to Rob Pattinson's Never Thing *cough*. But I am sorry my dear Rob, this one is better, a little bit, please don't feel offended. I just think it is more mature, it is more real the lyrics for Too Far Gone (thought Rob Pattinson has a great voice that sounds like Jeff Buckley.. and as you know it.. I'd marry Jeff Buckley if I could)

The lyrics here are like a failed slap in the face to the ex. I can't explain it much better. He is begging the girl, to move on, with better and deeper words, obviously.

It is difficult to see when someone you used to love, when the relationship didn't work out, he is still hanging on you. It is really hard to see how you still are perfect in his eyes but you just can't feel the same. It is particularly beautiful the part of saving her soul. I wish I'd talk to him to ask him what he felt to write those words, but I guess that interview could wait on my *to do lists before I am 30* list.

So here it is, my new crush: Sam Bradley with Too Far gone

Artist: Sam Bradley
Song: Too Far Gone

So you come to me
For rest in my heart
Rest in my home
That's all you want

I haven't seen you lately
But you still call me baby
What about my name?

Still I stand to save your soul
Yes I stand to save your soul
Before you're too far gone
Before nothing can be done.

When I should have lied and
When I should have tried and
When I had no fight in me and
The whole world was screaming hold on
Screaming hold on.

So I come to you
For rest in your heart
Rest in your home
It's all you want

Well you learnt to hate me
But you still call me baby
I guess you forgot my name...

Still I stand to save your soul
Yes I stand to save your soul
Before you're too far gone
Before nothing can be done.

When I should have lied and
When I should have tried and
When I had no fight in me and
The whole world was screaming hold on
Screaming hold on

Girl you got it all so hold on
But you got it all so wrong
Girl you got it all so hold on
But you got it all so wrong
Girl you got it all so hold on
But you got it all so wrong

Girl you got it all so hold on
But you're just too far gone...

Twenty something...

(This lovely, adorable shopper bag was sent by the most adorable little monster family. thank you. I promised you a pic and here it is)

I will be 24 in a bit less than two weeks.

I don't want to be twenty four hahaha. that number looks so old for some reason. I am happy with being twenty three, I feel young and pretty and with the spirit that I am capable of doing whatever I want, but twenty four, I think it has to do with the fact that is closer to the cautious 25... That is basically a quarter of a hundred... can you believe that? So many things happens when you are 25... And 24 is just twenty five - one...

Too scary...

So I decided to give you a song that will give you thinking why I'd just stay in twentyfour for forever.. (well, at least for a couple of years). While you listen to this song, I will try to find a way to stay 24 for the rest of time... Maybe I can be in the queue for a free bite from Edward Cullen and then become a vampire? I don't know.. I don't like fighting and a lot of teenagers are on that line already...

Title: Twentysomething

After years of expensive education,

a car full of books and anticipation,

I’m an expert on Shakespeare

and that’s a hell of a lot

but the world don't need scholars

as much as I thought.

Maybe I'll go travelling for a year,

finding myself or start a career.

I could work for the poor though

I’m hungry for fame

we all seem so different

but we're just the same.

Maybe I'll go to the gym, so I don't get fat,

aren't things more easy with a tight six pack?

Who knows the answers? Who do you trust?

I can't even separate love from lust.

Maybe I’ll move back home and pay off my loans,

working nine to five answering phones.

Don't make me live for my friday nights,

drinking eight pints and getting in fights.

I don't want to get up,

just let me lie in, leave me alone,

I'm a twenty something.

Maybe I'll just fall in love that could solve it all,

philosophers say that that’s enough,

there surely must be more.

Ooooh Love ain’t the answer nor is work,

the truth eludes me so much it hurts.

But I’m still having fun and I guess that's the key,

I'm a twenty something and I'll keep being me.

doh dah duh dah, do duh dah dah dah

I’m a twenty something.

Let me lie in, Leave me alone.

I’m a twenty something.

(Ok.. I don't really feel like this, not all the time.. but It is a fun song.. I am happy as being just like me and I'd hate to have to become someone else... so ignore me.. it is just me and the closeness of 25)

Give me ideas of what to do on my birthday... Maybe something fun to give me a break? A last party before I reach the dreadful 25? I have to work on that day (yes, I have a board meeting) but maybe after? something fun to let me forget that I am one year less than 25?

To the dancers in the rain ..

I live in in a rainy city, hell, I live in a rainy country..! I knew what I was signing for when I chose to leave sunny Mexico towards the mysterious charm of U.K. And I don't regret it. It is quite good that I just love rainy afternoons.

Like today.

Today was a clear example of how crazy Edinburgh weather really is, I mean, I woke up (feeling totally dead tired at 8 am after a night out with the girls.. but that's another story) and I listened to the sound of the raindrops angrily fighting against my window. I got out from bed and I found out that the raindrops stopped being raindrops and were snow. Snow. In March. I went to the kitchen just to find in my huge windows that the small snow now was a snow storm. Fun. Then we had sun, then rain, then more snow, then sun, the both things together.

Feeling a little bit under the weather, I just had to use this line!, I decided that it'd be wise to not go out with the crazy weather if my throat feels quite uneasy. I prepared a yummy and warm food and decided to read a little bit while eating my food (according to diet websites, this is like horrible). I put on some music, rainy day music...

Norah Jones is perfect.

I love her for baking too. Her voice just swoons me to a totally relaxed stage of mind.

So this is my rainy day song for you guys.

Artist: Norah Jones
Album: Come away with me
Year: 2002
The Nearness of you (original song by Hoagy Carmichael [1938])

Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you

It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you

When you're in my arms and I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams come true

I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me the right
To hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night the nearness of you

Do you like rainy afternoons? What do you do when you have a rainy afternoon?

Love is not a competition (but I'm winning)

(Do you want to have a date with me?)

I'm sorry it took me so long. But finances are taking a toll on me. Blame them, but well, I'd not be the only one who is blaming them right now right?

What is love for Penny Lane?

I love love. I really do. I just hate the cheesiness and predictable things that come with your average next door love. I love the emotion of flirting, the tiny little things that make you blush and feel the warm on your cheeks. I love how you can feel the electricity between you and that person. I love the heart beating, and the batting eyelashes and the games and the flirtations. And how every single thing that seems to be so normal, its perfect just because that person did it.

I hate red roses, but I love those tiny colorful flowers picked from the park as long as you remembered that I loved them.

I hate the heart shaped box of chocolates, but if you go to the supermarket and you bring me that candy bar I told you I loved, I'll eat you with kisses.

I absolutely hate poems written by you, but if you listen to music and you find this little gem of a song and you tell me "I kinda thought of you with this song", I will have you on my mind for the rest of my life, every single time I listen to that song.

Chocolate covered strawberries, colorful tulips, cold nights by the fire, warm nights with sparkly sky by the sea. Good songs, slow songs, quick songs, sad songs, love songs. Love Actually, Casablanca, Pride and Prejudice, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Gone with the wind, The Notebook. Lizzie & Mr. Darcy, Bella & Edward, Lovely Linda & Paul McCartney, Rhett & Scarlett, Rick & Ilsa, Noah & Ali.

That is love for me. The little things, the little pains and happiness that comes from loving someone. I have to make the note that sometimes the most basic love ever is the unrequited love. So in this list it wasn't forgotten.

Let's not forget to remember the wise words of Sapphire from Almost Famous: "They don't even know what it is to be a fan. Y'know? To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts."

That is love too.

Penny's Unconventional Love Songs

1. The way I am - Ingrid Michaelson:( I love you, with all your little things and you love me the same way.)
If you were falling, then I would catch you. You need a light, I'd find a match. Cause I love the way you say \ good morning. And you take me the way I am.

2. Stellar - Incubus: (How do you make me feel that I am better when I am with you?)
Meet me in outer space. I will hold you close, if you're afraid of heights.

3. Never think - Rob Pattinson: (Forget about the Twilight mania, and listen to the pain of trying to protect the woman he loves.)
I ain't got no fight in me In this whole damn world So hold off She should hold off It's the one thing that I've known..

4. God Only Knows - The Beach Boys : (I think it is a classic. The life would go on without you. The world won't stop its course, but I don't know how to go on without you. )
I may not always love you But long as there are stars above you You never need to doubt it Ill make you so sure about it God only knows what Id be without you

5. Lover, you should have come over - Jeff Buckley: (I can't explain how much I love this song. The pain of knowing that you love that person, but you are too stupid and too young to realize it. And when you do, when you do realize that you're stupid and too young, you want to do anything to get her back. Pure genius. I would have married Jeff Buckley, eyes closed.)
Yes, and I feel too young to hold on I'm much too old to break free and run Too deaf, dumb, and blind To see the damage I've done Sweet lover, you should've come over Oh, love, well I'll wait for you Lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late.

6. Simple as it should be - Tristan Prettyman: (The day I dedicate a song to the person I love, probably will be this one. It talks about how a relationship is just perfect and simple as it should be. I love this song.)
Cos I don't think that we, Should ever feel the need to worry, Ever get ourselves in a hurry,
You know I love you, I know you love me.. So time will go, And we may be far apart, I know.. But as far as I can see, This is so good, There's no need for change, It's all right with me... It's as simple as it should be...

7. Stand Inside your Love - Smashing Pumpkins. (Again, Billy amazes me. We are meant to be. As simple as it is. We are perfect for each other, craziness and all that included.)
Don't understand, don't feel me now, I will breathe, for the both of us

8. Night is still - Strays don't sleep (There is sweetness in the music, and the simplicity of the words, it describes perfectly those moments when the words are just unnecessary)
I love the time, no one else knows the lines. We say could the world love this way? (we sing, we sing) If they knew the words, would they shout it out across the lonely skyline while we'd sing...

9. I'll be your lover too - Van Morrison: (I wouldn't mind if someone sings this song to me. It is perfect romance, I will be your friend, i will be your caretaker and i will be your lover too.)
And so I come to be the one who's always standing next to you Reach out for me So I can be the one who's always reaching out for you Yes I will. You'll be my queen I'll be your king And I'll be your lover too.

10. Falling slowly - Glen Hasard: (Love is to save each other)
Take this sinking boat and point it home We've still got time Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice You've made it now Falling slowly sing your melody I'll sing along

11. Flying High - Jem: (The charms of being secretly in love. But taking it slowly. The magic of the first dates.)
But I'm flying so high high off the ground when you're around And I can feel your high rocking me inside it's too much to hide

12. Wild Horses - The Rolling Stones: (It is one of my favorite songs. When you reach everything you want in life, when it is time to think with whom you want to spend your life with, that is when this song happens)
Childhood living is easy to do The things you wanted I bought them for you Graceless lady you know who I am You know I cant let you slide through my hands Wild horses couldnt drag me away Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away

13. Just Like Heaven - The Cure: (My favorite song of all the time. When I get married, I will walk the aisle with this song, (version Katie Melua) and no one will stop me! I think it describes falling in love, perfectly.)
You soft and only, You Lost and lonely, You Strange as angels, Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream

14. Chasing Cars - SnowPatrol: (Forget Grey's and its more romantic scene ever (Alex carrying desolate Izzie). This song is the perfect example of unconventional love song. I love how it describes the being with that person, just doing nothing. Don't you love when you have nothing to say, yet it feels like you are saying everything?)
Those three words, Are said too much They're not enough If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

15. Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's (What I love about this song is the innocent that it irradiates. I would love if as a teen someone would sing this song to me.)
Hey there Delilah Don't you worry about the distance I'm right there if you get lonely Give this song another listen Close your eyes Listen to my voice, it's my disguise I'm by your side

16. You Picked Me - A Fine Frenzy: (This is a personal pleasure. What if you are the difficult type, and there is this person that get to reach you, pick you, care for you. You were difficult and impossible, until you met him)
Like an apple on a tree, hiding out behind the leaves, I was difficult to reach but you picked me. Like a shell upon a beach, just another pretty piece I was difficult to see but you picked me

17. Honey and the moon - Joseph Arthur: (Its a sweet melody, Joseph's voice charms you all the way. Sometimes love means to let go.)
Don't know why I'm still afraid If you weren't real I would make you up now I wish that I could follow through I know that your love is true and deep as the sea but right now everything you want is wrong, and right now all your dreams are waking up, and right now I wish I could follow

18. The first day of my life - Bright Eyes: (Ashlee Simpson and company kinda ruined it for me. But lets forget about them, and just listen to this song. It is basically about meeting a person that changes you to the point of no return)
Yours is the first face that I saw I think I was blind before I met you Now I don’t know where I am I don’t know where I’ve been But I know where I want to go

19. Blue Eyes - Cary Brothers (It is from one of my favorite soundtracks. And it owns the most perfect quote I ever listened.)
I just wanna sing a song with you I just want to take it off of you Cause Blue Eyes You are all that I need Cause Blue Eyes You’re the sweet to my mean

20. Anna Begins - Counting Crows: (This is about a couple where they are kinda fighting their real feelings. But at the end, when he realizes that it was love, she has already faded away.)
And every time she sneezes I believe its love And oh lord.... Im not ready for this sort of thing She s talking in her sleep-it s keeping me awake And anna begins to toss and turn And every word is nonsense but I understand it and Oh lord. I m not ready for this sort of thing Her kindness bangs a gong Its moving me along and anna begins to fade away It s chasing me away. she dissappears, and oh lord Im not ready for this sort of thing

21. Sky -Joshua Radin (This is a weird song, at first you thing that is a broken heart song about someone who's willing to forget everything.. Then you find out that it is a bout a dream.)
i wake to you and you never left me, all that I'd dreamt had been untrue open my eyes, i see sky you know the way to keep me on my toes I, will be fine just say you'll stay forever mine til we fall asleep tonight

22. I'll back you up - Dave Mathews band: (Another of my favorites. It is about sharing a life together. I seriously adore the lyrics for this song)
But I know The touch of you is so hard to remember But like that touch I know no other And for sure we have danced In the risk of each other Would like to dance Around the world with me

23. Smooth - Santana: (Santana once said to Rob Thomas after he read the lyrics for this song: You fell in love with a Latin Woman. This lyrics are sexy and it is about that, falling in love with a Latin Girl. (Rob Thomas married the woman that he talked about =) )
And if you say this life aint good enough I would give my world to lift you up I could change my life to better suit your mood Cause youre so smooth

24. A Case of you - Joni Mitchell (It is a painful song. But it is poetry. Joni sings about love someone so much that is part of you. And when he bleeds, you bleeds. And even if he hurts you, you can't help it but still love him. Because he is part of you.)
I remember that time that you told me, you said Love is touching souls Surely you touched mine Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh you are in my blood like holy wine And you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you I could drink a case of you darling Still Id be on my feet

25. Such Great Heights - Postal Service: (Normally I don't put any order to my lists but I left the best to the last. This is my ultimate love song. It is about being in love, being in such a happy place, away from the reality, just you and that person, and never wanting to leave there. You have to listen to this one. )
They will see us waving from such great Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say But everything looks perfect from far away, 'come down now,' but we'll stay...

This is love for me, what is love for you?

Note: The title for this post is a song from Kaiser Chiefs.
